World number 16 Pablo Carreno Busta is aiming to put his nightmare result at the US Open behind him with a strong showing here at the 2021 Metz Open in France. He has started well so far and will be hoping that this form can continue. Next up in his path is the talented teenager Holger Rune who has been charging up the rankings lately. Pablo Carreno Busta is the second seed here at the 2021 Metz Open and is currently ranked #16 in the ATP world rankings. The Spanish star has a reputation for being one of the most consistent players on the Tour, and is normally a sure bet to reach the later rounds in most if not all the events that he plays. However, he has had a very poor season by his high standards this year, and has quite a few early round losses in recent times. He has seemingly put that behind him here and had a comfortable win over Mikael Ymer in the Round of 16, winning in straight sets. Holger Rune is currently ranked #133 on the ATP Tour and is a Qualifier here at the 2021 Metz Open. The youngster has been turning heads on the tour lately with some solid performances, and even managed to take a set from world number one Novak Djokovic at the US Open, in a fantastic performance on Ashe Stadium. After getting through the Qualifying Rounds, he has put in a couple of stunning performances, defeating Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-0, 6-0 in the First Round before upsetting sixth seed Lorenzo Sonego in the Second, in the biggest win of his career. His confidence will be sky high, and while he is still the massive underdog against Pablo Carreno Busta, in this type of form and with his game he will be thinking that anything can happen.

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and while Rune is in the form of his life, I still see Pablo Carreno Busta winning this match. The Spaniard is highly experienced and I don’t think that he will lose here. Holger Rune is an explosive player and I expect to hear a lot from him in the future, but he is not quite ready to make this jump up yet. PCB is one of the best players in the world, and is very likely too consistent for Rune to overcome. The youngster will certainly make it difficult, but PCB will use every ounce of his experience and come away with the hard fought straight sets win.
