Monaco Masters: Alexander Zverev vs David Goffin 4/15/21 Tennis Prediction

Fifth seeded German Alexander Zverev will face eleventh seeded David Goffin of Belgium in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters in Monaco. The match is scheduled to be played on Thursday April 15th, 2021 at 7:00am EST

This is set to be an exciting match between two very experienced and talented players. Both men are more well known for their hard court achievements, but have also won multiple titles on clay. Will it be the 6th ranked German getting the win as expected here? Or will David Goffin cause the upset and advance to the Quarter-Finals here in Monaco?

Alexander Zverev has cemented his status as a top 10 player over recent years, but has been disappointing this far in 2021. He has been very inconsistent, and will be looking to make a deep run here in Monaco to get his career back on track. He dispatched the in-form Lorenzo Sonego in the Second Round, but did not impress. It was more a case of his opponent giving the match away than Zverev winning. He is a very good player on clay, winning one Masters-1000 event on the surface before, and is experienced enough to turn it around and improve here against David Goffin. 

David Goffin is currently ranked #15 in the world and is a former top 10 player. He has been in good form so far here in Monaco, defeating Marin Cilic in the First Round before crushing Marco Cecchinato 6-0, 6-4 in a dominating performance. With his steady and aggressive baseline game, he is just the type of player to frustrate the erratic Zverev. While he enters this match as the underdog, he is experienced enough to give the German star a run for his money and take advantage of any slip-ups. 

This has the potential to be a very tight match, and one that both men will be eager to win. They have both had inconsistent seasons, and a Quarter-Final berth at this event is a huge incentive to both of them. I do think that this match will go the distance, and I am picking Alexander Zverev to win eventually. He has a bit more firepower than the Belgian, and if he serves well, he should advance here in a very tight match. Alexander Zverev will win and reach the Quarter-Finals here in Monaco.
