Novak Djokovic will meet Grigor Dimitrov in the Third Round of the 2023 Australian Open. The match will be played on Saturday January 21st, 2023.

Novak Djokovic is the fourth seed here at the Australian Open and is ranked 5th on the ATP Tour. The legendary Serbian has won this title nine times, and is aiming to win his 10th, as well as equal the record for most Grand Slam titles won. The draw is opening up very nicely for him, with numerous seeds falling early and his status as favorite is even more solidified now. After winning the title in Adelaide last week, he won his opening two matches relatively easily, for the loss of only one set. However, his hamstring is severely bothering him and one must wonder how severe it is. He is the massive favorite here, but that will depend on the injury.

Grigor Dimitrov is the 27th seed here at the 2023 Australian Open and has been in fantastic form to begin the week, winning both of his matches without dropping a set. His opponents were no slouches either, Laslo Djere and Aslan Karatsev, and he will look to continue that momentum against the nine time champion Novak Djokovic. Dimitrov is as solid as they come from the baseline with his groundstrokes being huge weapons, and his experience makes him very dangerous. Unfortunately, he has only won once against Djokovic in ten matches, and his chances of getting his second victory are looking bleak.

The outcome of this match depends fully on Djokovic's injury status. If the hamstring is still bothering him, there is a small window of opportunity for Dimitrov. If the Serbian is anything near his best, as we suspect he will be, he should win rather comfortably. The Bulgarian is experienced enough to keep it close, but he simply cannot match Djokovic's determination and counter-punching prowess and I expect him to go down here. I would avoid the straight-sets market, especially due to the injury and the fact that he lost a set in the last round, but back Novak Djokovic to book his spot in the Round of 16 comfortably.
