Paris Masters: Giles Simon vs. Tommy Paul 11/03/20 Tennis Prediction
2020-11-03 08:00:00 EDT
It is a battle of the generations as veteran Giles Simon takes up and coming American Tommy Paul in the first round of the 2020 Paris Masters on Tuesday, November 3rd 2020. Will Simon succeed in his home-country, or will Paul cause an upset?
Tommy Paul is a very solid and promising up and coming talent who really has only made his tour debut this year, although he had played few matches in prior years on the main tour. Paul has always been more of a challenger level player who was not succeeding in coming into tournaments on the main tour, however, he is showing promising signs of more appearances in tournaments in the future. Tommy Paul will know that next year is really a free shot for him to finally establish himself on the tour, especially in ATP 250 and 500 tournaments. Paul knows that however the current task at hand is here in Paris, against the very experienced Giles Simon.
Giles Simon has been playing some solid tennis as of late, playing well in tournaments in Cologne and getting a strong feel for the indoor hard court game before Paris. Simon is one of the players known as someone who keeps returning the ball and is able to go back and forth for 30+ shots in each rally. Players do not enjoy playing against him because he is so consistent in rallies. Simon would have loved for the French crowd to be here and to be able to use their support to help him to win, but he will have to do it himself now.
This is going to be the first meeting between both players and it is going to be a very interesting one. If this was on a clay court, or an outdoor hard court, I may swing in favour of Tommy Paul. However, as it is indoor hard and Simon has had much more playing time as of recent, I am leaning towards the Frenchman to get the job done. Simon has more experience, is playing at home, and has a better feel for these courts, he should win this.
