Diego Schwartzman meets Tomas Machac in the second round of Tokyo 2020 on Monday, July 26th, 2021.
Will we see a huge upset in the second round here as Tomas Machac aims to shock everyone and beat a top 10 player, or will Diego Schwartzman dominate this match and show us how good he can be as he did in the second half of the 2020 season?
Tomas Machac had to fight in the first round against Joao Sousa, not being able to get the first set under his belt and then had to win the next two sets. Tomas is not known at all as he mainly focuses on such small tournaments that are not on the ATP Tour. However, Tomas was able to beat Joao who is a mainstay on the ATP Tour, mainly in ATP 250 tournaments. Can Tomas come out here and shock us all as he causes one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far?
Diego Schwartzman had to fight through a very close first round match, beating Juan Pablo Verillas in 2 sets 7-5/6-4. Diego Schwartzman will know that it is not too late in the season to get his best tennis out as he was struggling in 2020 until around the end of the season where he was able to just switch his game up to another level and get himself into the top 10. Diego needs to start gaining some momentum for the US hard court season and going far here in Tokyo will only help him at achieving his goals.
This is going to be the 1st meeting between both players, and unfortunately for Tomas Machac, he stands absolutely no chance coming into this match. Tomas struggled against Joao Sousa who is not even that good of a player and he will have to raise his game to a whole other level if he is able to get anything going here. However, Diego will put so much pressure on him with his amazing return game and he will cruise easily in 2 sets into the third round here in Tokyo.
