Marketa Vondrousova vs Paula Badosa

Marketa Vondrousova meets Paula Badosa in the quarter final of Tokyo 2020 on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021.

Will Paula Badosa come out here and get a big win so early in her young career as she continues to breakthrough on the WTA Tour, or will Marketa Vondrousova be able to get the win right after getting one of the biggest wins of her career against Naomi Osaka?

Paula Badosa dominated in her third round match against the Argentine, Nadia Podoroska, beating her in 2 sets 6-2/6-3 to get herself in this quarter final. Paula Badosa showed us how good she can be this week but I am sure there is even more she can bring to the table with her amazing and power hitting game. Paula Badosa is a dominant player and she has been coached well this year to rise up the rankings, but she needs to ensure she is best prepared to get another big win under her belt against Marketa Vondrousova.

Marketa Vondrousova shocked everyone watching in the third round, beating the very in form and Gold medal favourite, Naomi Osaka, in 2 sets 6-1/6-4 to get into the quarter final. Marketa Vondrousova did not think much about the occasion and she just played as if she had nothing to lose, allowing her to maintain her composure during the tight moments. Marketa will come out in this quarter final wanting to back up that performance, but she is going to have to be as good as she was against Osaka as Badosa is no easy opponent.

This is going to be the 2nd meeting between both players, with Paula Badosa having won their only prior encounter. I expect both of these players to come out here and leave it all out on the line in the hopes of making the semi finals. It will most likely be a 3-setter, but Paula Badosa has been in great form this week and she has shown us that when her opponents are at their best she can always find some holes. Marketa might still be boasting about that win over Osaka which will not allow her to be fully focused here, and giving Badosa the edge.
