Tokyo 2020: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Frances Tiafoe 7/26/21 Tennis Prediction

Stefanos Tsitsipas meets Frances Tiafoe in the second round of Tokyo 2020 on Monday, July 26th, 2021.

Will we see a repeat of Frances Tiafoe’s amazing upset win over Stefanos which he accomplished earlier this month at Wimbledon, or will Stefanos Tsitsipas show us that he knows what went wrong in their last meeting and he will improve to get his revenge win going?

Frances Tiafoe had such an easy win in the first round, beating Soonwoo Kwon in 2 sets 6-3/6-3. Frances Tiafoe knows that he has been in better form over the last month than he probably expected himself to be, and he will want to keep building on the momentum as he meets Stefanos Tsitsipas. Frances will know he can get another win over Stefanos as he has been in great form, but he will also know that not everything he did before will work against Stefanos so he should get some more aspects of his game out.

Stefanos Tsitsipas had a very up and down match against the veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber, beating him in 3 sets 6-3/3-6/6-3. Stefanos looked great in the first set but then he let his guard down and showed us that he still needs to find his best tennis recently because he has not been able to play as well as he did last month at Roland Garros. Stefanos Tsitsipas will come into this second round knowing he will have to be at his absolute best as Frances Tiafoe wil want to get another win over him, but after being embarrassed at Wimbledon, Tsitsipas cannot let that happen.

This is going to be the 4^th meeting between both players, with Stefanos having won 2 of their 3 encounters. Tsitsipas is much more higher ranked, and on paper, he should win this match in easy fashion. However, due to their last meeting going the way of Tiafoe and the fact that Tsitsipas did not play his best in the first round, I expect for this to be a tight match for who goes to the third round. I think it will be Tsitsipas to come through, but it will be a 3 setter.
