Stefanos Tsitsipas meets Ugo Humbert in the third round of Tokyo 2020 on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021.
Will it be a 2-0 head to head scoreline for Ugo Humbert against the much higher ranked Greek or will Stefanos Tsitsipas come out here and get his revenge for his loss last year to Humber in a very tight match which went to the end?
Ugo Humbert came through a very tight match in the second round, beating his fellow youngster Miomir Kecmanovic in 3 sets 4-6/7-6/7-5. Both of these players went at it from start to finish in that match, but the extra bit of success and experience that Ugo Humbert has gained this year allowed him to maintain his composure during the tight moments. Ugo Humbert will be so happy with his performances and he will know that he can definitely go further here in Tokyo, but he needs to be at his best as he meets an improving and motivated Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Stefanos Tsitsipas bounced back from his tough loss to Tiafoe just earlier this month in Wimbledon to beat him in 2 sets 6-3/6-4. It was light and day between Tsitsipas’ first match here in Tokyo and his second one with the Greek finding his composure on serve and ensuring that he is not letting his guard down at any time. Stefanos Tsitsipas will come out here knowing that he will have a tough battle now that he meets Ugo Humbert who has already beaten him before.
This is going to be the 2nd meeting between both players, with Ugo Humbert having won their only prior encounter. They played an incredible match when they met with it going right until the tiebreak in the third set. Ugo Humbert clawed through it and I am 100% sure that Stefanos Tsitsipas will come out in this one ready to get sweet revenge for that. Stefanos has improved drastically since they met and he has more big match experience, so I think when push comes to shove in this match, Stefanos will have that extra bit of confidence to get the win.
