Alexander Zverev vs Albert Ramos-Vinolas
September 2, 2021 12:00 am EDT
Fourth seeded German Alexander Zverev will face the unseeded Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the Second Round of the 2021 US Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Thursday September 2nd, 2021.
Alexander Zverev is one of the main contenders for the title here at the 2021 US Open and has been simply dominant on the hard courts this year. He is in fantastic form and will be seeking to make up for last year’s heartbreaking Final loss to Dominic Thiem. Can the veteran Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas cause the shocking upset and knock the fourth seeded German out here in the Second Round?
Alexander Zverev is ranked #4 on the ATP Tour and is also the fourth seed here at the 2021 US Open. The German star has sad memories of this event from last year where he was up two sets to love in the Final before losing a heartbreaker to Dominic Thiem. He started strongly here with a confident win over American Sam Querrey in a match where he was dominant with his serve, winning over 90% of his first serve points. Zverev seems to be peaking at the right moment and is in as good form as he ever has been, and will be a serious threat to the title here in New York. The world number four is the heavy favorite here against Albert Ramos-Vinolas and will expect yet another comfortable straight-sets victory.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas is unseeded here at the 2021 US Open and is currently ranked at #48 on the ATP Tour. The Spanish veteran is much more comfortable on the clay but has had some noteworthy results on this surface. He had a battle in the First Round with Lucas Pouille and was able to recover from two sets to one down to advance. He has a very solid baseline game but lacks a real weapon which will be necessary against the very top players of which his opponent Alexander Zverev is one. He is the big underdog in this match and while he is highly experienced and tactically very strong, there is not much chance of the upset here in New York.
This is a simple match to predict and will result in a thumping win for the fourth seeded Alexander Zverev. He is on another level now and is playing some outstanding tennis. He certainly is looking capable of winning the title here, and I have been most impressed with his serve, which can sometimes let him down. Once that is firing as it is, he can be extremely difficult for anyone to beat and I expect him to advance to the Third Round here at the 2021 US Open without any issues.
