US Open: Diego Schwartzman vs. Kevin Anderson 9/1/21 Tennis Prediction
Diego Schwartzman vs Kevin Anderson
September 1, 2021 7:00 pm EDT
Eleventh seeded Argentine Diego Schwartzman will face the unseeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa in the Second Round of the 2021 US Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday September 1st, 2021 at 7:00pm EST.
A highly entertaining match is expected as Diego Schwartzman meets Kevin Anderson at the 2021 US Open, with a spot in the Third Round up for grabs. Both men are highly experienced players and have an excellent chance of getting the win here as the match is very evenly balanced. Can Diego Schwartzman continue his good start here in New York? Or will the former finalist Kevin Anderson turn back the clock and cause the upset?
Diego Schwartzman is the eleventh seed here at the 2021 US Open and is ranked #14 on the ATP Tour. He is one of the fastest and hardest working players in world tennis, and despite his small size is a big threat on any service. He was impressive in his First Round win over Ricardas Berankis, but will have to be even better here against former Finalist Kevin Anderson. Schwartzman is a rock solid baseline grinder, who has an extra gear and can be aggressive when needed. He will have to get creative and get ready to grind here against Anderson as he may struggle to break serve and handle his power from the baseline.
Kevin Anderson is unseeded here at the 2021 US Open and is currently ranked #77 on the ATP Tour. The big-serving South African is highly experienced, and has had a lot of success here, having reached the Final here in New York in 2017. However, he saw his career curtailed by serious knee injuries and is only now getting back to his best after a couple rough seasons. He was surprisingly pushed to five sets in the First Round by Jiri Vesely, and he will not have wanted to spend that much time on the court as he is likely not yet up to full fitness. He has one of the biggest weapons in world tennis in his serve, and he will be relying on that to get him past Diego Schwartzman here.
This will be the fourth time that the two men are playing each other on the ATP Tour, with Kevin Anderson leading the head to head series 2-1. This is an extremely difficult match to call as I think that this is a very evenly matched encounter between two very good veteran players. They both have their advantages. Schwartzman is fitter, faster and more consistent, and Anderson is more powerful and has a major advantage with his serve. The main concern I have here is Anderson’s health after that five setter, but he is looking fit and if his serve is clicking then he should get a lot of cheap points. I think it will be a tight battle but I am going with the South African to win. He has been to the Final here before, and while I don’t think that he can go deep into this event due to his relative lack of fitness, I am sure that he has enough gas to get through at least one more high level match. Anderson to win and advance to the Third Round of the 2021 US Open.
