US Open: Karolina Pliskova vs. Amanda Anisimova 9/2/21 Tennis Prediction
Karolina Pliskova vs Amanda Anisimova
September 2, 2021 9:00 pm EDT
Fourth seeded Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic will face unseeded American Amanda Anisimova in the Second Round of the 2021 US Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Thursday September 2nd, 2021 at 9:00pm EST.
An extremely exciting match is expected here at the 2021 US Open as Karolina Pliskova and Amanda Anisimova do battle for a spot in the Third Round. Pliskova is the obvious favorite here due to her superior ranking and experience, but Anisimova is one of the most talented young players on the WTA Tour and has bags of potential. If everything clicks for her she can be an extremely dangerous opponent here, so we are in for a very competitive match. Who will get the win and advance here in New York?
Karolina Pliskova is ranked #4 in the world and is also the fourth seed here at the 2021 US Open. Her struggles at Grand Slams is well known, as the former world number one has folded under the pressure more often than not but she will be hoping to change that here as she attempts to win her first Grand Slam title. After a very poor start to the year she has turned her season around, notably reaching her maiden Wimbledon Final, the Final in Montreal and the Semis in Cincinnati. Pliskova is in fine form and is highly confident, which makes her very dangerous. She was dominant in her opening round win over Caty McNally but wasn’t really tested. This match will really test her mettle as Amanda Anisimova has all the tools to do well here, but has been struggling lately. Pliskova is the big favorite, but if she struggles (as she sometimes does at majors) and the young American is firing, there is definite upset potential.
Amanda Anisimova is one of the most promising players on tour but has been in pretty inconsistent form lately, and has struggled to a 14-13 win loss record this season, a very poor record for someone of her caliber. She has seen her ranking drop to a lowly #75 and will be hoping for a strong showing here to get her career back on track. Unfortunately she has run into one of the most in-form players on the WTA Tour in Karolina Pliskova and will have a very difficult match ahead of her. She looked good in her First Round win over Zarina Diyas, but is facing a much higher level now. If she serves well and keeps her errors low she has a chance, but even that seems unlikely given her struggles so far this year.
If this match had been last year I think we would be in for a classic, but the two ladies are in much different places now, with Pliskova being in dominant form and Anisimova low on confidence and struggling to string wins together. I think that the American has a big future ahead of her but for now she needs to make some changes if she is to truly compete with the world’s best. I am expecting a tough but dominant win for the fourth seeded Karolina Pliskova here, who will advance to the Third Round here at the 2021 US Open.
