US Open Men’s Final: Novak Djokovic vs Daniil Medvedev 9/12/21 Tennis Prediction

Novak Djokovic vs Daniil Medvedev
September 12, 2021 4:00 pm EDT

Novak Djokovic (1) of Serbia will face Russian Daniil Medvedev (2) in the Men’s Final of the 2021 US Open. The match is scheduled to take place on Sunday September 12th, 2021 at 4:00pm EST. Djokovic is chasing history as he seeks to win a record 21st Grand Slam title and the calendar year Grand Slam, while Medvedev is aiming to win his first Major after falling agonizingly short a few times.

The 2021 US Open Final will be a blockbuster between the top two seeds as Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev do battle in what is expected to be a fantastic match. Both men have simply been outstanding so far here in New York and are highly motivated to win the title. Who will win here and lift the trophy on Arthur Ashe Stadium?

Novak Djokovic is the world number one and is the top seed here at the 2021 US Open. The Serbian superstar was the favorite heading into this event and with a win here will surpass his big rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal by winning his 21st Grand Slam title. It has been a stunning year for Djokovic and if he wins he will become the first man since the great Rod Laver to win all four Major titles in the same year. He was pushed to the limit by an inspired Alexander Zverev in the Semi-Finals, winning in five sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. It was a gritty performance by the world number one, as the German was throwing everything he had at him but he was able to weather the storm. He will face an even tougher challenge in the Final here against Daniil Medvedev who has been outstanding throughout the past two weeks. While Djokovic should be considered the slight favorite due to his experience and history of winning major titles, he will have to be at his absolute best to defeat an inspired Medvedev here in New York.

Daniil Medvedev is the second seed at the 2021 US Open and is ranked #2 on the ATP Tour. The big Russian is perhaps the best player in the world to have never won a major and is seeking to finally win the title here in New York after falling at the Final hurdle in 2019. He has been dominant here so far, only dropping one set en route to the Semis, surprisingly being pushed to four sets in the Quarter-Finals by the Qualifier Botic van de Zandschulp. That was not much cause for concern, he simply let his guard down for a brief moment but knows that he cannot do that against his next opponent, Novak Djokovic. In the Semi-Finals against Felix Auger-Aliassime he was in supreme form, serving extremely well and wearing the young Canadian down with pinpoint accuracy and his trademark consistency. What will help him here against Djokovic is his ability to transition from defense to offense well, and if he is serving well he will be very tough to beat. He should be considered the underdog here but make no mistake, he is very capable of winning this match.

This will be the ninth meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with Djokovic leading the head to head 5-3. However, in their 5 matches since 2019 Daniil Medvedev has won three of them, showing how even this match is shaping up to be. I am expecting this match to be a huge battle, and it likely will go right down to the wire. Novak Djokovic has the obvious advantage of being in this situation many times before, and has a wealth of experience in Grand Slam Finals. While Danill Medvedev has been to the Final before, it is still quite new to him. However, he has won big tournaments before and seems fully locked in here, and is desperate to win his first Major. After carefully considering everything, I am going with the world number one to win here. That experience will be crucial and he always seems to raise his level in the biggest moments. The Russian will push him to the max and it will be extremely close, but Djokovic will win a very close match here, becoming the 2021 US Open Champion.
