US Open: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Carlos Alcaraz 9/3/21 Tennis Prediction
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Carlos Alcaraz
September 3, 2021 1:30 pm EDT
Third seeded Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas faces the unseeded Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in the Third Round of the 2021 US Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday September 3rd, 2021 at 1:30pm EST.
A blockbuster match is expected as Stefanos Tsitsipas does battle with Carlos Alcaraz with a spot in the Round of 16 here at the 2021 US Open up for grabs. Tsitsipas is the obvious favorite, he is a true global superstar but Alcaraz is a fast-rising star in the making who has been playing some fearless tennis in recent times. The Greek is one of the main contenders for the title here in New York, and is gunning for his first ever Grand Slam title. Can the young Spaniard cause the massive upset and dash his opponent’s dreams?
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the third seed here at the 2021 US Open and is also ranked at a career-high #3 in the world rankings. The Greek superstar has had a breakout year so far in 2021, winning his first ATP-1000 title in Monte-Carlo and reaching his maiden Grand Slam Final at Roland Garros. He is a major threat to win the title here in New York but was not convincing in his First Round win over Andy Murray, but was able to recover well and get the victory, which was important. He then had yet another unconvincing victory over Adrian Mannario and while he will be happy to come away with those two wins, he will have to be much better if he is to get past his next opponent Carlos Alcaraz and the others that will follow later on. There is no doubting his talent but his play is looking shaky at the moment.
Carlos Alcaraz is unseeded here at the 2021 US Open and is ranked #55 in the ATP world rankings. The young Spaniard has turned heads since he burst onto the Tour as a young teenager a few years ago and has some impressive big wins on his resume. He won his maiden ATP title this year in Umag and it seems to be only a matter of time before he breaks into the top 10 of the rankings. He has been fantastic here so far, cruising past Cameron Norrie in straight sets and Arthur Rinderknech in four. While he is the big underdog here against Stefanos Tsitsipas, he has a big game, and if the Greek’s struggles continue then Alcaraz could possibly make things interesting.
This is going to be a very exciting match filled with lots of explosive shot making. With that being said, it is very difficult to look past Stefanos Tsitsipas getting the win here. Carlos Alcaraz is a fantastic young talent but expecting him to defeat the world number three in his US Open debut is too tough an ask. Tsitsipas is one of the main contenders for the title here and while I don’t think he will have it easy here, he will eventually figure it out and defeat the young Spaniard, advancing to the Round of 16 here in New York.
