Wimbledon 2021: Andrey Rublev vs. Federico Delbonis 6/28/21 Tennis Prediction
Andrey Rublev vs Federico Delbonis
June 28, 2021 7:15 am EDT
Fifth seeded Russian Andrey Rublev will face unseeded Argentine Federico Delbonis in the First Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Monday June 28th, 2021 at approximately 7:15am EST.
Andrey Rublev is currently ranked #7 in the ATP world rankings and is the fifth seed here at Wimbledon. The Russian has had a very successful past two seasons, and has emerged as a serious contender in every tournament that he participates in. He has not had much success on grass in his career but showed his quality when he reached the Final in Halle, narrowly losing the Ugo Humbert. He will have taken some confidence from that performance, and will be backing himself to do well here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. His game can be very effective and dangerous on this quicker surface, and his powerful groundstrokes are sure to cause his opponents lots of trouble. He enters this match against Federico Delbonis as the huge favorite, since his opponent is much less comfortable on this surface than he is.
Federico Delbonis is currently ranked #48 in the world and has been having a successful season so far in 2021. The Argentine lefty is considered a clay court specialist, and has struggled on grass throughout his career. He has failed to win a match here at Wimbledon in five attempts, and given his draw he is not expected to get the maiden win here. Delbonis lacks the firepower that is needed to defeat the Russian on this type of surface, and he will be in for a tough day at the office.
This is an easy match to predict, and Andrey Rublev will win quite comfortably. Despite grass not being his favorite surface, he is simply better than Federico Delbonis in every area, and he has a good shot of making the second week here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Delbonis is a very experienced player and certainly is capable, but his poor record here speaks for itself, and there is no way that his first win at this event will be against a top 10 player in the Russian Star. I expect Rublev to come out the gates swinging, dominating the match from start to finish, and he will advance to the Second Round here at Wimbledon.
