Wimbledon 2021: Roberto Bautista Agut vs. John Millman 6/28/21 Tennis Prediction
Roberto Bautista Agut vs John Millman
June 28, 2021 6:00 am EDT
Eighth seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut will face John Millman of Australia in the First Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Monday June 28th, 2021 at 6:00am EST.
Can 2019 Wimbledon Semi-Finalist Roberto Bautista Agut repeat that performance and make another strong run here at the All-England Club? Or will Aussie veteran John Millman be able to cause the upset? Both men play a similar style of tennis and are two of the fiercest competitors on the ATP Tour. Who will get the win and advance to the Second Round?
Roberto Bautista Agut is seeded #8 here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and is ranked #10 in the ATP world rankings. The Spaniard is one of the toughest and most hard working players on the tour, and is a very hard player to face. While grass is his least favored surface he is still a very capable player, as evidenced by his run to the Semis at the last edition of the Championships, as well as him having one title on the surface. His serve isn’t massive, but he is one of the best returners in the game and his flat, powerful groundstrokes are a major weapon on these faster courts. The Spaniard is a much more accomplished player than his opponent John Millman on this surface and enters this match as the big favorite to advance here at Wimbledon.
John Millman is currently ranked #43 in the world and like his opponent Roberto Bautista Agut has built a reputation as a very fierce competitor and hard worker. The Aussie has never had much success on the grass surface, and should be considered the underdog here. He is having a poor year by his standards and currently has a losing record at 12-15. He has struggled to find consistent results and has only advanced past the Second Round at one tournament this year. Millman is a very good player but he will struggle to cope with the Spaniard’s powerful groundstrokes and it is hard to see a scenario where he comes out on top.
This will be the sixth time that the pair have faced each other on the ATP Tour, and Roberto Bautista Agut has dominated the head to head series, winning on each occasion. Millman can take some comfort in knowing that he has taken a set off his opponent in all but one of those matches, so he will think he is capable of causing the upset. However, I cannot see that happening. RBA is simply too good and has a bit more firepower than his Australian opponent. I expect the Spaniard to win a tough match here, advancing to the Second Round here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
