Wimbledon: Dan Evans vs. Sebastian Korda 7/02/21 Tennis Prediction
Dan Evans vs Sebastian Korda
July 2, 2021 10:30 am EDT
Dan Evans (22) of Great Britain will face American Sebastian Korda in the Third Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday July 2nd, 2021 at 10:30am EST.
This is set to be an exciting match between local hope Dan Evans and the talented young American, Sebastian Korda. Both men have been impressive so far here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, and will have their eyes firmly set on reaching the Round of 16 here for the first time. The crowd will be fully behind Evans here, can Korda cope with the pressure and pull off the upset here?
Dan Evans is ranked number 26 in the world rankings and is the 22nd seed here at Wimbledon. The British number one has enjoyed a fine season so far this year, winning his first ATP title and will have his heart set on a deep run here at his home tournament. While he has never passed the Third Round here, he has been impressive so far and is yet to drop a set. Evans had impressive straight set wins over Feliciano Lopez and Dusan Lajovic, and will enter this match against the young star Korda as the slight favorite. Evans will know that he has to be careful here, as the American has a very dynamic and powerful game, which can be very dangerous on this surface.
Sebastian Korda is currently ranked #50 in the ATP world rankings and is unseeded here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The young American has had an outstanding start to his career, winning his first title this year and reaching the Semi-Finals at the Miami Open. He has had a fine debut at Wimbledon, defeating 15th seed Alex De Minaur who was fresh off the Eastbourne title, and followed it up with a comfortable win over Antoine Hoang. The American has a big serve and groundstrokes, and can be extremely good on this surface once he gets more experience and becomes comfortably. Despite his underdog tag here, he is certainly capable of getting the win over Dan Evans.
This is yet another difficult match to call, and both players are sure to struggle with their opponent’s style of play. Evans has a slower and methodical approach and uses the backhand slice well, with Korda preferring an all-out attack. Dan Evans will have the entire crowd supporting him on Center Court, but I am going to go out on a limb and pick Sebastian Korda to score the upset. His game is tailor made for this surface, and if he can keep his errors low he should be able to overpower his opponent. Korda should win this in four or five sets, advancing to the Round of 16 here at Wimbledon.
