Wimbledon: Diego Schwartzman vs. Liam Broady 6/30/21 Tennis Prediction

Ninth seeded Diego Schwartzman of Argentina will face unseeded British player Liam Broady in the Second Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday June 30th, 2021 at 10:45am EST.

This is an interesting match between one of the best players in the world in Diego Schwartzman and local Wild Card Liam Broady. While this would normally be a relatively easy match to call in favor of the world number 11, he is not comfortable on grass and could be vulnerable. Even so, it will still be a tough challenge for Liam Broady to face a player of this caliber. Can the Brit stun the tennis world and cause the shocking upset here at home?

Diego Schwartzman is ranked 11 on the ATP Tour, and is the ninth seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. While the Argentine has been in sublime form over the past few years, he is not fully comfortable on the grass here and is not expected to be a serious contender. He had an easy path to the Second Round by defeating Benoit Paire, who gave little to no effort towards the end. While Schwartzman will have been delighted to get the win, he would have been hoping for a tougher test perhaps, as he seeks to acclimatize to the courts and the conditions, and Paire throwing the match away did him little favors. Despite his struggles on the surface, he should still be treated as the slight favorite here against Liam Broady, but it certainly won’t be smooth sailing against the talented Brit.

Liam Broady is currently ranked #143 in the ATP world rankings and entered the 2021 Wimbledon Championships by virtue of being given a wild card. The Brit didn’t have an ideal preparation for this event, losing in the First Round of Queens and the Second Round of Eastbourne. Despite this, he was outstanding in his win over Marco Cecchinato, dropping only seven games in total to the very experienced Italian. He has a very strong serve and powerful forehand, and if his serve is working well he will provide a stern test for the diminutive Argentine star.

This match will be a lot closer than the rankings may suggest, but I am backing Diego Schwartzman to get a very close win here. Liam Broady is a very tough player, and this surface will make things tough for the Argentine, but I still feel that he is talented enough to get the win. Broady doesn’t have much experience at this level, and while he should win a set, he will ultimately fall short here.
