Wimbledon: Karen Khachanov vs. Frances Tiafoe 7/02/21 Tennis Prediction
Karen Khachanov vs Frances Tiafoe
July 2, 2021 12:00 am EDT
Karen Khachanov (25) of Russia will face unseeded American Frances Tiafoe in the Third Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday July 2nd, 2021 at a time yet to be determined.
A very exciting match is expected as Karen Khachanov and Frances Tiafoe square off for a spot in the Round of 16 here at Wimbledon. Both men play ultra-aggressive tennis and are in great form at the moment, so this match is sure to be full of exciting tennis and drama-filled moments. Can the unseeded American continue his great run here at the All-England Club or will it be Khachanov spoiling the party and advancing?
Karen Khachanov is the 25th seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, and is a former top 10 player. However, he has seen his form drop over the past few seasons, and has now seen his ranking plummet to #29. Had it not been for the pandemic and the protected rankings he would likely be even lower, and will be desperate for a strong two weeks here at Wimbledon. He has started strongly here, defeating Mackenzie McDonald in four sets in the opener, and overpowering Egor Gerasimov in straight sets. While he is the higher ranked player here, the American Frances Tiafoe is looking in incredible form and has the crowd support behind them. It is hard to call Khachanov the favorite here, it seems extremely even when considering everything.
Frances Tiafoe has been on a dream run so far this week at Wimbledon, stunning third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the First Round before cruising past Vasek Pospisil again in straight sets. He can be inconsistent at times, but when he is playing with confidence, he has a very powerful game, and it is well built for this surface. His opponent Karen Khachanov is also a big hitter, so it really comes down to who can be more consistent and with more variety, and at the moment that seems to be the American. The crowd loves him here and he is playing freely, and will be tough to beat.
This is a tough one to call, but I am going with Frances Tiafoe to get the win here. The American seems to have gotten his joy of playing back, and is having fun on the court. History has shown us that he loves the big stage and big moments like this, and the crowd is treating him like one of their own. Khachanov is a very tough opponent but he has been struggling lately, so the stage is set for Tiafoe to claim yet another scalp. The Russian will win a set, but the American will win the match, advancing to the Round of 16 here at Wimbledon.
