Not many would have expected Viktorija Golubic to reach this stage here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, but she has played some fantastic tennis so far. Next up she faces the eighth seed Karolina Pliskova, a former world number one. Can she cause yet another upset and advance to the Semi-Finals here?

Karolina Pliskova is ranked #13 in the world and is the eighth seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. She was once ranked number one in the world but that seems a distant memory, as she has seriously been struggling over the past few seasons, seeing her ranking slide out of the top 10. Pliskova is yet to lose a set so far here, impressively crushing the in-form Liudmila Samsonova in the Round of 16. The Russian Samsonova was on a serious hot streak on grass and was considered the favorite despite her lower ranking, so Pliskova will have gained a lot of confidence with that win. Her strong serve and groundstrokes are serious weapons on this surface, though she can struggle with movement at times. She is the huge favorite here against Viktorija Golubic and will be expected to reach her first Wimbledon Semi-Final.

Viktorija Golubic is ranked #66 in the world and is unseeded here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Noone would have expected the Swiss player to still be here at this stage in the competition, but she has been outstanding so far. After losing the first set in her first round match she has hardly put a foot wrong, not losing a set since. She impressively defeated Madison Keys in the Round of 16, displaying remarkable consistency to overcome her more favored opponent. While she enters this math against Karolina Pliskova as the underdog yet again, she is playing with serious belief and confidence and will be expected to provide a stern test.

This appears to be a routine match for Karolina Pliskova on paper, but her struggles have been so great that even though she has played well here, it is hard to trust her. Golubic is much lower ranked, but has played much better than her ranking suggests here, and one must consider the possibility of her causing yet another upset here at Wimbledon. However, when it gets deep into these big events, experience gets more and more important, and Pliskova has the huge advantage there. I don’t fully trust her yet, but I think that she is a much better player than Viktorija Golubic and she should be heavily backed to win here. She is playing with renewed focus and passion and I expect her to do well here, advancing to her first Wimbledon Semi-Final.
