Wimbledon: Nick Kyrgios vs. Gianluca Mager 7/1/21 Tennis Prediction
Nick Kyrgios vs Gianluca Mager
July 1, 2021 1:00 pm EDT
Nick Kyrgios meets Gianluca Mager in the second round of the Wimbledon on Thursday, July 1st, 2021.
Will Nick Kyrgios be able to recover fast enough after his first match in 4 months went to 5 sets over 2 days, or will Gianluca Mager utilize this potential tiredness from Kyrgios’ side to get a big win under his belt here early in Wimbledon.
Gianluca Mager played a very strong match against Juan Ignacio Londero, beating him in 4 sets 7-6/6-0/4-6/6-3. Gianluca Mager was in great form right from the start and even when the going got tough towards the end of the 3rd set, Gianluca was able to maintain his composure and get himself ahead in the 4th set. Gianluca Mager has had some big wins in his career, having beaten the likes of Dominic Thiem in the past, but he needs to now beat someone who is very hard to beat on grass in Nick Kyrgios. Can the Italian do it?
Nick Kyrgios put on the match of the tournament so far in my opinion, beating the in form Frenchman, Ugo Humbert, in 5 sets 6-4/4-6/3-6/6-1/9-7. It was such a rollercoaster of a match and it went over two days as they had to shut the tournament down late on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, Nick came out a bit sluggish but he was then able to find his rhythm after a while to teach the young gun a lesson and get a big win under his belt. Nick says he loves Wimbledon and I am sure that the big wins he’s had at this tournament make him want to get even more under his belt.
This is going to be the 1st meeting between both players, and although Nick played a very long match and he needs to recover more than Gianluca, I still see Nick coming out on top. Nick Kyrgios on grass is a different beast, and although the record books don’t show it, he can hit any shot he wants on this surface. I am sure he wants to make a statement this tournament and he will aim to get an easy straight sets win under his belt here to ensure he has the energy for more important matches later on in the tournament.
