Wimbledon: Novak Djokovic vs. Kevin Anderson 6/30/21 Tennis Prediction

Number one seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia will face unseeded South African in the Second Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday June 30th, 2021.

This will be a rematch of the 2018 Wimbledon Final, where world number one Novak Djokovic defeated Kevin Anderson in straight sets. Can Anderson put his recent injury woes behind him and cause the stunning upset here in 2021?

World number one Novak Djokovic is the top seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, and is seeking his sixth Wimbledon title, and a record-equaling 20th Grand Slam title. Novak was made to work early on in his win over young British teen Jack Draper, dropping the first set before recovering to win easily. It seemed like his focus wasn’t fully there, and it took him a while to acclimatize to moving on these courts, that have been giving quite a few problems this year. The top seeded Serbian star enters this match as the big favorite over Kevin Anderson, but knows that he cannot discount his opponent due to him having one of the best serves in the world.

Kevin Anderson is a former top 5 player on the ATP Tour, but recent injuries and struggles getting back into form have seen his ranking slide outside the top 100. He is on the comeback trail now, but has found the going rough, especially with his early round and qualifying round losses at the Wimbledon warm up events. He then surprisingly dropped the first set in his First Round match to little-known Qualifier Marcelo Vera of Chile, before recovering to win in four sets. He is the big underdog here against Novak, but will be backing himself to have a chance since he is very experienced, his serve always can keep him in the match, plus Djokovic is only two weeks removed from his French Open title.

This should be a relatively straightforward win for Novak Djokovic here. Kevin Anderson is a very difficult opponent, but Novak thrives under the pressure, and there is no greater pressure than what he is feeling now in trying to equal Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer’s record. While he may not seem like a natural grass court player, his serve is much improved and his movement is elite, and it is really hard to ever count against him. I expect Novak to win here in three tough sets to advance to the Third Round here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
