Wimbledon: Roberto Bautista Agut vs. Dominik Koepfer 7/02/21 Tennis Prediction
Roberto Bautista Agut vs Dominik Koepfer
July 2, 2021 9:30 am EDT
Eighth seeded Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain will face unseeded German Dominik Koepfer in the Third Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday July 2nd, 2021 at approximately 8:30am EST.
Dominik Koepfer is quietly putting together a solid showing this year at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. He has looked quite good during his opening round matches, but is in for a stern test here as he meets Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain who is the eighth seed. RBA is one of the best players in the world, and is always a sure bet to perform well. Can the German get perhaps the biggest win of his career by causing the upset here, moving into the Round of 16 at Wimbledon?
Roberto Bautista Agut is ranked #10 in the ATP world rankings and has built a strong reputation as a very vonsistent performer. The Spaniard counts grass as his least favorite surface, but still has had some success on it, winning a title five years ago and reaching the Semi-Finals in 2019. Despite all his achievements he has had a very tough time so far here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, being pushed by both John Millman and Miomir Kecmanovic to reach this stage. While fatigue could be a small factor, he is one of the fittest men on tour and I see that as being a non-issue. His weak serve will be something for the German Koepfer to take advantage of if possible, but RBA’s strength will be in his flat and powerful groundstrokes.
Dominik Koepfer is ranked #62 in the ATP rankings and is unseeded here at Wimbledon. He has only ever won one grass court match before this event, so expectations were not high. He then stunned the huge-serving Reilly Opelka in the First Round in straight sets, making the rest of the draw take note. He then followed it up with a tough five set win over Soon-Woo Kwon to reach the Third Round here at Wimbledon for the first time. Even though he is the massive underdog against world number 10 Roberto Bautista Agut, he has been playing some solid tennis and will think that he has a chance. He will be confident in his abilities after the Opelka win and will be going for it here.
This is the second time that RBA and Koepfer are facing each other on the ATP Tour with the Spaniard winning the first match. They faced each other last year in Hamburg, with Bautista Agut winning a close three-setter. This match has the potential to be just as close, with RBA struggling a bit and the Dominik Koepfer playing some career-best tennis on the grass here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. I do think that RBA will win despite all his struggles so far, he has all the experience on this surface and should be able to wear down the German. Koepfer is in great form and can keep it interesting, but the Spaniard will eventually pull away and should win in four sets.
