Wimbledon: Sloane Stephens vs. Kristie Ahn 6/30/21 Tennis Prediction

Sloane Stephens of the USA will face compatriot Kristie Ahn in the Second Round here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Ahn is in the second round for the first time and will be seeking a massive upset. Can she achieve it? Or will the experienced Stephens get the win as expected?

Sloane Stephens is unseeded here at Wimbledon, and after seeing her form sharply decline over the past few years, finds her ranking at a lowly 73 in the world. She wasn’t expected to go very far here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, especially when she was drawn against former champion Petra Kvitova but she American played some outstanding tennis to defeat the Czech star in straight sets. She will be full of confidence after that win, and as a former grand slam champion she is an extremely dangerous player, especially now that the draw has opened up for her. She enters this match against Kristie Ahn as the massive favorite, and is expected to cruise here.

Kristie Ahn is ranked #117 in the world and had to qualify for this event After a few hiccups and close calls she made it, and then took full advantage by willing a very tight three setter in the First Round. Mainly playing on the ITF Tour, she had never won a match at Wimbledon previously, and will be delighted to be in the Second Round. While she is a big underdog here against Sloane Stephens, she has shown her fighting spirit and is playing without pressure or expectations, and will be hoping for the best here.

This is the first time that the two players have met on the WTA Tour, and I expect this to be a comfortable win for the former US Open champ Sloane Stephens. She is quite simply the much better player, and has a ton of experience at this level and at these big events. Kristie Ahn is clearly a fighter and won’t go away easily, but I expect Sloane Stephens to have too much for her young countrywoman and she should win in straight sets here.
