Marton Fucsovics vs Carlos Alcaraz
August 25, 2021 8:20 pm EDT
Fourth seeded Marton Fucsovics of Hungray will face fifteenth seeded Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Winston-Salem Open in North Carolina. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday August 25th, 2021 at approximately 8:20pm EST.
A hugely exciting battle is expected here at the 2021 Winston-Salem Open as Marton Fucsovics and Carlos Alcaraz square off for a chance to reach the Quarter-Finals. Both player are very entertaining and this match is sure to be filled with lots of spectacular shot making, regardless of the outcome. Fucsovics is an established veteran on the ATP Tour while Alcaraz is one of the most promising young players to emerge in recent times. This is sure to be a close encounter, who will get the win and advance to the Quarters?
Marton Fucsovics is the fourth seed here at the 2021 Winston-Salem Open and is currently ranked #42 in the world. The big Hungarian is extremely talented but has long been considered a frustrating player to support as he can b very hot and cold. His results this season are evidence of this, sitting at a respectable 21-14 on the season but he had a run to the Final in Rotterdam and the Quarters at Wimbledon, which greatly boosted the win column. Otherwise he has been quite average, but he is very capable of a shocking upset from time to time. He has a huge game and can blow anyone off the court at any given moment, but it difficult to predict when those moments will arrive. He has had an easy time so far here in North Carolina, with a comfortable win over Yosuke Watanuki being his only action thus far. He enters this match against Carlos Alcaraz as the slight favorite, but knows what the youngster is capable of, and will have to be at his best to get the win here.
Carlos Alcaraz has been considered a prodigy since he burst onto the scene a few years ago, and has since backed that tag up with numerous big wins and results. The young Spaniard claimed his first ever ATP title earlier in the year in Umag, and is now sitting at a career-high ranking of #54. The sky really is the limit for Alcaraz, and he started his 2021 Winston-Salem campaign with a tough three set win over Alexei Popyrin. He is still a bit inconsistent at times but his upside is unlimited, and he certainly is capable of causing the upset here over Marton Fucsovics unless his opponent is at his best. Even so, the Spaniard should not be counted out and I think that this is setting up to be a classic.
This match is sure to be “must see TV” between two of the most exciting players around. While Fucsovics is the favorite due to his superior ranking and experience, I think that this is setting up perfectly for the young Spaniard. The Hungarian is known to be very inconsistent and have lapses in concentration, and I think that the relentless nature of Alcaraz’s game will frustrate him and lead to many errors. It definitely can go either way, but I’m backing the young Spaniard to cause yet another upset, and advance to the Quarter-Finals here at the 2021 Winston-Salem Open.
