Sports Chat Place previews the Round of 16 matches at the 2021 Dubai Open WTA event. The matches are scheduled to be held on Wednesday March 10th, 2021.
Belinda Bencic vs. Anastasia Potapova – Sixth seeded Bencic faces Potapova in the Round of 16. They have both been in mixed form lately, struggling to put consistent results together. They both have similar game styles and math up fairly well on this surface. I expect Belinda Bencic to get the win here as she should be able to overpower her opponent from the baseline. Bencic to win in straight sets.
Pick – Belinda Bencic to win
Anett Kontaveit vs. Aryna Sabalenka – This is a fascinating match between two in-form players. Sabalenka has not been as impressive lately as she was at the start of the year, but she is still one of the best players in the world and enters this match as the firm favorite. Kontaveit has been in great form lately but I think she will come up just short here. Aryna Sabalenka to win in three sets.
Pick – Aryna Sabalenka to win in three sets
Coco Gauff vs. Tereza Martincova – Young phenom Coco Gauff comes up against surprise package Martincova, who stunned fifth seeded Kiki Bertens in the Second Round. Gauff has been on a roll this year and has seemingly taken her game to another level. While Martincova is a solid player I expect the in-form Gauff to figure it out and eventually get the win in two or three close sets.
Pick – Coco Gauff to win
Iga Swiatek vs. Garbine Muguruza – The match of the Round of 16 features two of the best players in the world. The experienced former number one Muguruza comes up against one of the young stars of the WTA Tour in Iga Swiatek, the 2020 Roland Garros Champion. Both ladies have been in fantastic form lately and this will surely be a very close and exciting match. This really can go either way but I am backing the young Pole to eventually wear the Spaniard down with her heavy groundstrokes. Both players to win a set is a good bet here, with Swiatek likely to get the win.
Pick – Iga Swiatek to win in three sets
