The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Phoenix Suns duke it out at the Footprint Center on Wednesday night.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming into this meeting with plenty of momentum as they are now gunning for an eighth straight victory after sneaking past the Warriors in a 104-101 road win last night. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 33 points and 11 rebounds on 12 of 26 shooting, Anthony Edwards added 20 points while Mike Conley chipped in with 13 points and eight assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 44 percent from the field and 14 of 34 from the 3-point line as they worked their way back from a 12-point deficit, before they clamped down defensively and held the Warriors to just six points in the final 3:39 to keep their win streak alive.

Minnesota Timberwolves Team Facts

  • The Timberwolves have won seven of their last eight games as underdogs on the second leg of a back-to-back.
  • The Timberwolves have covered the spread in each of their last six games on the second leg of a back-to-back against Western Conference opponents.
  • Eleven of the Timberwolves’ last 13 road games on the second leg of a back-to-back have gone OVER the total points line.

Phoenix Suns

Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns have been in a slump with five losses in their past seven games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting beaten by the Thunder in a 111-99 loss on Sunday. Kevin Durant led the team with 28 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Bradley Beal and Drew Eubanks scored 15 points each while Josh Okogie scored just eight points. As a team, the Suns shot just 38 percent from the field and nine of 29 from the 3-point line as they took the early lead and seemed to have control of the contest, until the fourth quarter where they went ice-cold and scored just 13 points to get blown out in a disappointing finish. Grayson Allen shot just two of eight for his seven points while Jusuf Nurkic scored just three points on one of six shooting.

Phoenix Suns Team Facts

  • The Suns have won each of their last 10 games as home favorites against opponents who are on the second leg of a back-to-back.
  • The Suns have covered the spread in each of their last six games against the Timberwolves.
  • Seven of the Suns’ last eight home games against the Timberwolves following a home loss have gone UNDER the total points line.

Peter’s Pick

The Suns have been dealing with plenty of injuries lately, but the good news is that they should have Devin Booker and Bradley Beal in the lineup for this one. The Timberwolves have quietly been one of the hottest teams in the league and they would’ve taken plenty of confidence after beating the Warriors in back to back games. The Suns will surely bounce back with a win now that they have their stars back, but I’m expecting some growing pains in the early going. The Timberwolves are playing this one on zero days rest, but I think they can at least get the cover in a close one.
