The New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun face off on Sunday in a WNBA basketball showdown at the Barclays Center. This is the last game before there is a break for the All-Star game and Olympics.
The Connecticut Sun come into this game with a 13-6 record overall which puts them in first place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Sun are playing really well coming into this game having won four of the last five games. In the last game, the offense was strong scoring 84 points, and that led to the 12 point victory. The Sun on the season are averaging 79.3 points per game while their defense is giving up 74.2 points per game. Jonquel Jones has been the best player for Connecticut averaging 21.3 points per game while shooting 54.8 percent from the field. In this game for the Sun it’s going to be about the offense being good, and making this game a shootout.
On the other side of this matchup is the New York Liberty who sit with a 10-10 record overall which puts them in third place in the Eastern Conference standings. The New York Liberty have been up and down this season, but they are coming off their worst loss of the season. In that last game against the Indiana Fever, the defense struggled giving up 82 points and led to the 13 point loss. On the season, the New York Liberty are averaging 80.5 points per game while their defense is giving up 85.7 points per game. Betnijah Laney has been the best player for New York averaging 19.8 points while shooting 48.3 percent from the field. Sabrina Ionescu has also been a disappointment this year, averaging 10.5 points while shooting 38.5 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from behind the three-point line.
The Sun are the better team, and they are going to have no issue getting the job done in this game. Look for the Liberty to struggle to score in this game and Connecticut will cover the spread in this game.
