New York Liberty at Connecticut Sun

The Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty face off on Wednesday in a WNBA basketball showdown at Mohegan Sun Arena. The last time these two teams faced off was in July and the Sun came away with the 71-54 victory.

The Connecticut Sun have looked really good this season and they currently sit with a 24-6 record overall which puts them in 1st place in the WNBA. The Sun have won 12 games in a row and they haven’t been tested all that much as of late. In the last game against Phoenix Mercury, the defense gave up only 67 points. The Sun are averaging 79 points per game while their defense is giving up 70.1 points per game. Jonquel Jones has been the best player for Connecticut averaging 19.6 points while shooting 51.7 percent from the field. Four different players are averaging at least 10 points per game.

On the other side of this matchup is the New York Liberty who sit with an 11-19 record overall which puts them in 4th place in the Eastern Conference. The Liberty have lost seven games in a row but they have been competitive in most of those games, just not getting the job done late. In the last game against the Dallas Wings, the Liberty were leading heading into the 4th quarter, but they were outscored 21-10 and that led to the one-point defeat. The Liberty are averaging 78.4 points per game while their defense is giving up 85.3 points per game. Betnijah Laney has been the best player for New York averaging 17.3 points while shooting 45.8 percent from the field.

The Sun are the better team, but the Liberty have been competitive as of late, and they are going to keep this game competitive. I don’t think the Liberty are going to score 80 points, but they are going to find enough offensive success to keep this game close. The Sun will win but the Liberty will cover this spread.
