New York Liberty vs. Atlanta Dream

The Atlanta Dream and New York Liberty face off on Friday in a WNBA showdown at The Gateway Center @ College Park. When these two teams faced off in June 2021 it was the Dream that secured the 73-69 victory.
The Dream come into this game with an 8-8 record overall, but they are coming off a big win in their last game against the Dallas Wings. The offense scored 80 points and that was enough to win by five points. Two games ago against the Chicago Sky, they forced overtime, but they gave up 106 points and were defeated. The Dream are averaging 78.1 points, while their defense is giving up 78.3 points per game. The Dream’s offense is ranked 11th in the league, while their defense is ranked 4th. Rhyne Howard is having a big season, averaging 16.3 points while shooting 3.92 percent from the field.
On the other side of this matchup is the New York Liberty who sits with a 7-10 record overall, but they are coming off a win in their last game against the Connecticut Sun, the offense scored 81 points and that was enough to win by four points. The Liberty are averaging 76.6 points, while their defense is giving up 80.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 12th in the league, while their pitching staff is ranked 5th. Sabrina Ionescu has been the top player for the Liberty, averaging 16.4 points while shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the three-point line.
These teams are pretty similar, but the better defensive team is the Dream, and I expect they are going to do a good job of slowing down the Liberty here. New York’s offense has been inconsistent and that is going to be the difference as the Dream find success. The Liberty are averaging 76.6 points, but I expect they are going to finish with under 70 points. Back Atlanta against the spread.
