The Chicago Sky and New York Liberty face off on Wednesday in a WNBA showdown at Wintrust Arena. When these two teams faced off in June 2021 it was Sky that won 91-68.
The Chicago Sky has gotten out to a slow start to the season. The Sky lost their two games during the preseason and then in the first game of the regular season against the Los Angeles Sparks, they lost 98-91 in overtime. The Sky were outscored 22-19 in the 4th quarter, and in overtime, they were outscored 10-3. The top player in the first game was Dana Evans, scoring 24 points and grabbing five rebounds. Candace Parker also had a big season, scoring 21 points, six rebounds, and six assists. The Sky’s offensive rating is 102.9 which is 7th in the WNBA, while the Sky’s defensive rating is 6th in the league at 101.3.
On the other side of this matchup is the New York Liberty who didn’t play any preseason games, but they did open up their season with a victory, New York faced off against the Connecticut Sun and secured the 81-79 victory. At the end of the first quarter, they were down by seven points, but they fought back and were able to secure the two-point victory. In the second quarter, the Liberty secured the 26-11 victory. If Sabrina Ionescu has a big season the Liberty could be in for a special season, and in the first game she put up 25 points, six assists, and four rebounds. Natasha Howard also had a big game, scoring 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
I expect there is going to be a ton of scoring by both teams in this game. The Liberty scored 81 points in their first game, but their defense also gave up 79. The Sky also scored 88 points in regulation in the first game, but their defense also gave up as many points. Look for both offenses to run up the score, look for a fast-paced game with very little defense played by either team. Back the over.
