Phoenix Mercury vs. Chicago Sky
July 2, 2022 1:00 pm EDT

The Chicago Sky and Phoenix Mercury face off on Saturday in a WNBA showdown at Wintrust Arena. When these two teams faced off on May 31st it was the Sky that were able to secure the 73-70 victory.

The Sky comes into this game with a 14-5 record, and in the last game against the Connecticut Sun the offense was strong, scoring 91 points on the way to the victory. Two games ago, against the Minnesota Lynx, it took a buzzer-beater to win 88-85. The Sky are averaging 85.7 points, while their defense is giving up 80.2 points per game. The offense is ranked second in the league, while their defense is ranked 5th in the league. Kahleah Copper has been the top player for the Sky, averaging 14.1 points while shooting 44.5 percent from the field and 47.2 percent from the field.

On the other side of this matchup is the Mercury, who sit with a 9-12 record overall, but they are coming off a big win in their last game. The offense put up 99 points against the Indiana Fever and that led to the blowout victory. The Mercury have won three games in a row, and they need are going to get the good offense going again. The Mercury are averaging 82.8 points, while their defense is giving up 85 points per game. The offense is ranked 4th in the league, while their defense is ranked 10th overall. Skylar Diggins-Smith has been the top player for Phoenix, averaging 18.7 points while shooting 45 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from behind the three-point line.

The Mercury are playing better as of late, but I still don’t trust their defense in this game, and that is going to lead to a higher-scoring game. The Mercury put up 99 points in the last game, and they are going to run up the score in this game. The Sky are averaging 85.7 points per game, and they will run up the score. Look for this game to be a shootout, and the over is going to cash with ease.
