The Atlanta Dream and Dallas Wings face off on Saturday in their opening WNBA game of the season at College Park Center. When these two teams faced off in September 2021 it was the Dream that secured the 69-64 victory.

The Atlanta Dream started off the 2021 season strong, but as the season went on they really started to struggle, and now they have done an overhaul of the roster during the offseason. There were eight different players brought in during the offseason and the biggest addition was Rhyne Howard, who was selected with the first overall pick in the 2022 draft. Last season with the Kentucky Wildcats, Howard averaged 20.5 points while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from behind the three-point line. Aari McDonald is back from last year’s squad, and last year he averaged 6.3 points in 16.4 points. The hope is that McDonald will take a big step forward this year.

On the other side of this matchup is the Dallas Wings, who are starting to become a strong team, but there are still some questions to be answered heading into this season. For years, the Wings have been one of the worst teams in the WNBA, but last year they took a step forward, sitting with a 14-18 record. The Wings didn’t make a ton of changes this offseason, but they did extend Arike Ogunbowale, who is the star of this team. Last season with the Stars, she averaged 18.7 points while shooting 38.3 percent from the field. Teaira McCowan was also brought in to help round out the roster. During the preseason, the Wings have been impressive, winning two games. In the last game against the Indiana Fever, the offense scored 100 points.

The Wings are going to have a big season I think, and they looked impressive in the preseason. In the last game, the Wings’ offense scored 100 points, and I expect they are going to find success again in this game, scoring. The Wings might not score 100 points, but they are going to do enough to cover the spread.
