Dallas Wings vs. Connecticut Sun 8/24/22 WNBA Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Dallas Wings and Connecticut Sun face off on Wednesday in game 1 of WNBA playoff showdown at the College Park Center. This is a winner take all game, with the winner moving on, and the loser going home.

In the first game of this series, it was the Sun that were able to secure the 93-68 victory. In the last game though the Wings’ offense had a big game scoring 89 points and that led to the 10-point victory. The Wings were led by Kayla Thorton who put up 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists. The Wings had four different players that put up 14 points. The Sun were led by Jonquel Jones and Brionna Jones, who finished with 20 points. Outside of those two, the Sun didn’t have a whale lot of success though and that led to the defeat. 

The Wings are averaging 82.9 points, while their defense is giving up 82.8 points per game. The offense is ranked 4th in the league, while their defense is ranked 7th in the league. The Wings are still without star player Arike Ogunbowale, but there is a chance they could get her back if they make it through this round. Marina Mabrey is having a strong season, averaging 13.6 points while shooting 42 percent from the field. 

On the other side of this matchup is the Sun, who are averaging 85.8 points while their defense is giving up 77.8 points per game. The offense is ranked 3rd in the league, while their defense is ranked second. The Sun are one of the most complete teams in the WNBA, but a loss in this game will mean they are out of the playoffs. Jonquel Jones is averaging 14.6 points while shooting 51.3 percent from the field and 36.9 percent from behind the three-point line. 

The Wings’ offense looked good in the last game, scoring 89 points, and I expect they are going to find the offensive success again in this game. It might not be enough to win this game, but it’s going to be enough for them to keep this game close. Look for the Wings to stay within three or four points, and they will cover the spread.
