The Indiana Fever and Los Angeles Sparks face off on Sunday in a WNBA showdown at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. When these two teams faced off in August 2021 the Fever secured the 74-72 victory.
On paper, the Fever are a better team than they were last year, but they still probably have a ways to go before they are competitive. At the end of the first quarter against the Washington Mystics, Indiana was down 31-16, and they never could recover from that as they were defeated 84-70. Kelsey Mitchell is still the top player for this team and in the first game, he had 18 points, three rebounds, and three assists. NaLyssa Smith also looks like he is going to be a key player for this team, and in the last game, she finished with 13 points and grabbed another 13 rebounds. In this game, the Fever are going to need the defense to be good.
On the other side of this matchup is the Los Angeles Sparks, who made some changes this offseason, and it looked good in the first game. The Sparks made a late comeback to force overtime, and in overtime, they outscored the Chicago Sky 10-3. The Sparks mostly used a balanced attack, with five different players putting up at least 12 points. The top offensive player was Jordin Canada, who had 21 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. If the Sparks offense is strong in this game, Los Angeles is going to be in good shape to secure the victory.
The Sparks have the more balanced offensive attack, and although they might not score 98 points again, they are still going to score at least 85 points. The Fever just don’t have enough offensive talent around Mitchell to keep this game close. Even on the road, the Sparks are going to win this game with ease. Back Los Angeles against the spread.
