The Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury face off on Wednesday in an MLB showdown at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.  When these two teams faced off in September 2021 it was the Mercury that secured the 86-81 victory.

The Fever comes into this game with a 4-12 record overall, but they are coming off a win in their last game. The offense outscored the Minnesota Lynx 22-15 and that was enough to win by four points. Two games ago against the New York Liberty, the defense struggled, giving up 97 points. The Fever are averaging 79.8 points, while their defense is giving up 88.1 points per game. The Fever’s offense is ranked 8th in the league, while their defense is ranked 12th. Kelsey Mitchell has been the top player for the Fever, averaging 18.8 points while shooting 43.2 percent from the field.

On the other side of this matchup is the Mercury, who sits with a 5-8 record overall, and they have won three games in a row. In the last game against the Washington Mystics, it took overtime, but the Mercury were able to win 99-90. The Mercury are averaging 82.2 points, while their defense is giving up 86.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 5th in the league, while their defense is ranked 10th. Skylar Diggins-Smith has been the top player for the Mercury, averaging 19.2 points while shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from behind the three-point line.

The Fever and Mercury have both struggled this season, but the Mercury has been a little more consistent as of late. The Mercury are the better offensive team, and they are going to have no issue running up the score here. Look for Phoenix to get over their season average of 82.2, and they will cover the spread.
