Phoenix Mercury vs. Indiana Fever
June 29, 2022 10:00 pm EDT

The Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury face off on Wednesday in a WNBA showdown at the Footprint Center. These two teams faced off on Monday, and it was the Mercury that were able to secure the 83-71 victory.

The Mercury comes into this game with an 8-12 record overall, and although they haven’t had the best season, they have won two games in a row. In each of the last two games, the offense has scored 83 points. The Mercury are averaging 81.9 points, while their defense is giving up 86.1 points per game. The offense is ranked 4th overall, while their defense is ranked 10th. The biggest issue with this team has been inconsistency, but maybe Phoenix is finally turning the corner. Skylar Diggins-Smith has been the top player for the Mercury, averaging 18.9 points while shooting 45.5 percent from the field.

On the other side of this matchup is the Fever, who sit with a 5-15 record overall, and they have lost two games in a row. Two games ago against the Dallas Wings, the defense gave up 94 points, and that led to the blowout defeat. In the last game against Phoenix, the defense again was a big issue. Indiana is averaging 79.6 points, while their defense is giving up 88.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 8th overall, while their defense is ranked 12th overall. Kelsey Mitchell has been the top player for the Fever, averaging 19 points while shooting 44.3 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from behind the three-point line.

The Mercury won the last game by 12 points against the Fever, and this game will be even better. The Fever’s defense is giving up 88 points per game, and Phoenix will reach that number in this one. The Fever just doesn’t have the offense to keep this game close, and Phoenix will cover the spread.
