Connecticut Sun vs. Los Angeles Sparks
August 11, 2022 10:30 pm EDT

The Los Angeles Sparks and Connecticut Sun face off on Thursday in a WNBA showdown at Crypto.com Arena. When these two teams faced off on Tuesday, it was the Sun that secured the 97-71 victory. The Sun outscored the Sparks in each of the four quarters.

The Sparks come into this game with a 13-21 record overall and if they want a chance to make the playoffs, this is a game they have to win, and that still might not be enough for them. The Sparks have lost seven of their last eight games, and after looking to be in good shape for the playoffs, it’s all come crashing down. The Sparks are averaging 79.5 points, while their defense is giving up 85.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 9th in the league, while their pitching staff is ranked 11th in the league. Nneka Ogwumike has been the top player for the Sparks, averaging 18.3 points while shooting 54.6 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from behind the three-point line.

On the other side of this matchup is the Sun, who sit with a 23-11 record overall, and they have won three of their last four games. The only loss during that stretch of games was against the Chicago Sky, and that was by only three points. The Sun are averaging 85.4 points, while their defense is giving up 77.9 points per game. The offense is ranked 3rd in the league, while their defense is ranked 3rd in the league. The Sun’s offense is good, but more impressive for the most part has been the defense, that is still good even with the first pace. The top offensive player for the Sun has been Jonquel Jones, and she is averaging 14.6 points while shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 37 percent from behind the three-point line.

On Tuesday, it was the Sun that secured the 97-71 victory, and this game isn’t going to be a lot different. The Sun are going to run up the score, and the Sparks just don’t have enough offense to keep this game close. Look for the Sun to get close to 100 points and Connecticut will cover the spread.
