Indiana Fever vs. New York Liberty
June 1, 2022 7:00 pm EDT

The New York Liberty and Indiana Fever face off on Wednesday in a WNBA showdown at Barclays Center. When these two teams faced off on May 13th it was the Fever that secured the 92-86 victory.

The Liberty comes into this game with a 1-7 record overall, and their last loss was another blowout. The defense gave up 92 points and the offense only scored 61 points, as they were blown out by the Seattle Storm. The Liberty are averaging 70.4 points, while their defense is giving up 85.3 points per game. The offense is ranked 12th in the league, while their defense is ranked 8th. All the talk about the last game was how bad the defense looked, but if they want a chance to turn around their season, they are going to need to find a way to get the offense going. Betnijah Laney has been the top player for the Liberty, averaging 13.3 points while shooting 41.5 percent from the field.

On the other side of this matchup is the Indiana Fever who will actually be playing in back-to-back nights, something that is a bit rare in the WNBA, especially early in the season. The Fever faced off with the Washington Mystics at home on Tuesday night. Heading into Tuesday night’s game, the Fever sat with a 3-7 record. Indiana is averaging 82.5 points, while their defense is giving up 89.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 5th in the WNBA, while their defense is ranked 12th. The top offensive player for this team has been Kelsey Mitchell, who is averaging 19 points while shooting 43.8 percent from the field. NaLyssa Smith is also having a big season, averaging 13.7 points while shooting 41 percent from the field.

These are two teams that have struggled, and I really don’t trust either of these teams. The Fever will have tired legs though in this game, and that is a big concern for me. With tired legs, the offense for the Fever won’t be as strong, and that is going to be the difference as the Liberty gets the job done. Back New York against the spread.
