Phoeix Mercury vs. New York Liberty

The New York Liberty and Phoenix Mercury face off on Sunday in a WNBA showdown at the Barclays Center. When these two teams faced off on July 7th it was the Mercury that secured the 84-81 victory.
The Liberty comes into this game with a 10-18 record overall, but in the last game against the Chicago Sky, they didn’t look very good. The defense gave up 89 points and even though the offense scored 81 points it wasn’t enough as the Liberty were defeated. The Liberty are averaging 79.1 points, while their pitching is giving up 84.3 points per game. New York’s offense is ranked 10th, while their defense is ranked 8th overall. The top offensive player for the Liberty has been Sabrina Ionescu, and she is averaging 17.1 points while shooting 41.6 percent from the field.
On the other side of this matchup is the Mercury, who sit with a 13-16 record overall, but they are a team that could be an issue if they get in the playoffs. In the last game against the Los Angeles Sparks, the Mercury’s offense scored 90 points and that led to the victory. The Mercury are averaging 83.4 points, while their defense is giving up 85.2 points per game. The offense has been good, ranked 4th, but the pitching at times has been an issue and is ranked 10th in the league. Skylar Diggins-Smith has been the top player for the Mercury, averaging 20.3 points while shooting 44.4 percent from the field.
These are two teams that have been inconsistent this season, but the Mercury are going to get the job done here. In the last game, the Mercury scored 90 points and their offense is going to be too much for the Liberty. I don’t see the Liberty keeping up in this game, and the Mercury are going to cover the spread.
