Atlanta Dream vs Phoenix Mercury

The Phoenix Mercury and Atlanta Dream face off on Friday in a WNBA showdown at the Footprint Center. When these two teams faced off on May 29th it was the Dream that secured the 81-54 victory.
The Mercury comes into this game with a 3-8 record overall, but they are coming off a big win in their last game. Phoenix put up 81 points against the Los Angeles Sparks, and that led to the seven-point victory. Two games ago against the Connecticut Sun the defense really struggled, giving up 92 points, and that led to the defeat. The Mercury are averaging 79.9 points, while their defense is giving up 86 points per game. The offense is ranked 6th in the league, while their defense is ranked 10th. Skylar Diggins-Smith has been the top player, averaging 18.4 points and 4.6 assists per game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Atlanta Dream, who sits with a 7-5 record overall, but they are coming off a loss in their last game. The offense only managed 60 points against the Seattle Storm, and that led to the defeat. Two games ago, against the Indiana Fever, the Dream secured the 75-66 victory. The Dream are averaging 74.2 points, while their defense is giving up 73.1 points per game. The offense is ranked 11th in the league, but their defense is ranked 1st in the league. Rhyne Howard has been the top player for the Dream, averaging 15.8 points while shooting 39.4 percent from the field.
The Mercury might be coming off a win, but I don’t see them having much of a chance here in this game. The last time these two teams faced off, the Mercury only scored 54 points and their lack of scoring is going to let them down. Atlanta is going to at least reach their average here, and Phoenix will secure the victory.
