Connecticut Sun vs. Seattle Storm
June 5, 2022 6:00 pm EDT
The Seattle Storm and Connecticut Sun face off on Sunday in a WNBA showdown at Climate Pledge Arean.
Heading into the season, there were a ton of expectations surrounding this Storm team, but they have been mostly a disappointment this season. The Storm currently sits with a 5-4 record overall and in the last game against the Dallas Wings they really struggled, scoring only 51 points and that led to the 17-point defeat. Seattle is averaging 76.8 points, while their defense is giving up 75.1 points per game. The offense is ranked 10th in the league, while their pitching staff is ranked 3rd in the league. The offense was the strength last season, but this year it has let them down. Breanna Stewart has been the top player for Storm, averaging 21.6 points while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the three-point line.
On the other side of this matchup is the Sun who sit with an 8-3 record overall and in the last game against the Phoenix Mercury, the offense scored 92 points and that led to a four-point victory. The Sun are averaging 87.2 points, while their defense is giving up 77.5 points per game. The offense is ranked second in the league, while their defense is ranked 5th. In this game, Connecticut is going to need to try and run up the score, and really put the pressure on the Storm defense. Alyssa Thomas has been the top player for the Sun, averaging 15.5 points while shooting 53.6 percent from the field.
The Storm’s offense has been a big issue all season, and I don’t see them magically breaking out of it in this game. The Storm only scored 51 points in the last game. The Sun’s offense has been strong all season, averaging only 87.2 points per game, and their offense will be the difference here. Back Connecticut against the spread.
