Spain and France face off Wednesday morning in a women’s basketball Olympic quarterfinal. The winner of this game moves onto the semi-finals, with the loser being eliminated.

Spain has looked quite impressive so far in the Olympics winning each of their first three games. Spain opened up with a ten-point win over Canada and also has had wins over Serbia and South Korea. The last game against South Korea was close, but Spain was still able to come away with the four-point victory. Astou Ndour is the star for Spain and in the last game, she finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Three different starters had at least 11 points in the last game, and in this game, they need other players outside of Ndour to step up. The more balanced of an attack this is, the better the chance that Spain is going to come away with the victory.

On the other side of this matchup is France who went 1-2 during the pool play, but they still have a chance in the knockout round. The one win was an impressive one against Nigeria, a game they won 87-62. In the last game against Japan, France was competitive, but they couldn’t get the job done late as they were defeated by four points. In the last game, the best player for France was Sandrine Gruda who finished with 18 points. The defense at times for France has been an issue, and can’t be something that lets them down in this game, or they will lose this game in blowout fashion.

The wrong team is favored in this game. Spain’s defense is going to lock down in this game and that will be the difference as they get the job done. Back Spain to come away with the cover of the spread.
