The UConn Huskies and the Seton Hall Pirates face off on Saturday in Big East college basketball action.

The UConn Huskies have hit the skids as Jim Calhoun’s team has lost four games in a row. Connecticut is 4-5 in the Big East, 10-2 at home this season, and in ninth place in the conference. Jeremy Lamb is averaging 17.7 points, Shabazz Napier is averaging 13.6 points and 5.9 assists, and Andre Drummond is averaging 10.3 points and 7.8 rebounds. As a team the Huskies are averaging 68.6 points and they are shooting 46.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 62 points and their opponents are shooting 37.2 percent. UConn was able to go on a run and win it all last season and it is going to take another big run to do it back to back.

The Seton Hall Pirates were one of the big surprises earlier this year but since then Kevin Willard’s team have lost five games in a row. SHU is 4-6 in the Big East, 3-4 on the road this year, and tied for 10th place in the conference. Herb Pope is averaging 15.9 points and 10.2 rebounds, Jordan Theodore is averaging 15.7 points and 7.0 assists, and Fuquan Edwin is averaging 13.6 points and 6.6 rebounds. As a team Seton Hall is averaging 69.5 points and they are shooting 43.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.2 points and their opponents shoot 41.5 percent. Seton Hall needs to stop the bleeding or they may be watching March Madness on TV this year.

UConn is 2-5 against the spread against the Big East, 0-4 against the spread in their last four games overall, and 1-4 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover. Seton Hall is 1-4 against the spread against the Big East, 13-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 16-5 against the spread in their last 21 games against a team with a winning percentage over .600. The home team has covered four in a row in this series.

The total in this one is set at 124 and it is going to be a non-issue for these two teams to get over. I also have a strong play on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area.

Mitch’s Pick: Over 124
