The Minnesota Timberwolves host the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night to close out the regular season.
Head to head, the Jazz are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings while the road team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings. The 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest, but just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. The Jazz on the other hand are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 road games, 1-5-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. Western Conference and 1-6-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
If the Minnesota Timberwolves defeat the Utah Jazz tonight, that would mean they finish the regular season with a 41-41 record, which sounds about right for them. Minnesota are a lot more talented than their record would suggest, but a poor defense and a the fact that they couldn't close out any tight games will see them miss out on that playoff berth they so desire. One thing the Timberwoles have been able to do this season was beat up on the lesser teams in the league, which is exactly what the Jazz are.
Utah enters the final regular game of the season with just 24 wins under their belt, which is good for dead last in a brutal Western Conference. The season couldn't end quick enough for a Jazz squad that has lost five straight and 16 of their last 18 contests overall. Their defense has really slipped in the late stages of the regular season as they are giving up an average of 111 points during their five-game losing skid.
I can't decide which one I like more here, the Timberwolves or the over. While Utah seems to have given up on the season a long time ago, Minny is still playing hard I think they cruise to victory and give the home towns fans something to cheer about, until they realise they won't be in the playoffs once again...
