International Cricket: West Indies vs. South Africa 2nd T20 Cricket Prediction

West Indies vs. South Africa
June 27, 2021 2:00 pm EDT

South Africa’s tour of the West Indies resumes tomorrow with their Second T20 fixture being played at St. George’s in Grenada. The match will start on Sunday June 27th, 2021 at 2:00pm EST.

West Indies lead the 5-match series 1-0 after thumping South Africa by 8 wickets in the first encounter. The weather is expected to be much better than it was in the first match as they were a few hiccups along the way. The pitch, as predicted was a batter’s paradise, at least it showed that with the Windies batsmen. South Africa on the other hand will be looking to have a better showing in tomorrow’s clash.

West Indies’ star-studded side showed exactly why this is deemed “their format” after obliterating the Proteas with the bat following a solid bowling display with the ball. The pick of the bowlers for the Windies were veteran Dwayne Bravo with 2 wickets, Fabian Allen the talented all-rounder also with 2 along with Jason Holder and Andre Russell who each took 1 wicket. Opener Evin Lewis took apart the opposition with his blistering 71 off just 35 deliveries while his partner Andre Fletcher helped himself to a quick fire 30. “Universe Boss” Chris Gayle and the explosive Andre Russell sealed the deal for the Windies with 32 and 23 respectively. West Indies will be looking to emulate a similar performance as they displayed today, taking nothing for granted but simply showing great aplomb in tomorrow’s contest.

South Africa showed great fight in their batting innings with impressive starts by their top 4 batsmen. Rassie van der Dussen, who went in at 4, ended the innings unbeaten on 56 from 38 balls while Quinton de Kock scored a quick fire 37 to help the Proteas reach a solid total of 160-6. They would’ve been hoping for at least 20-25 more runs on a track that really assisted the batsmen. On the other side of the pitch is where their downfall came as their bowlers were unable to adjust and apply pressure to the Windies batsmen. You can argue that their quick bowlers were still hitting ‘test’ lengths as 3 of them, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje all played in the recently concluded Test series. Nonetheless South Africa will know they have to improve in all both departments if they are going to stay afloat in this series.

Back-to-back matches are never easy no matter the format of the game, fitness will be tested, ailments may arise and the players’ mindsets will be tried. With that said, I predict West Indies to win this match once again after showing such a dominant presence in today’s game. Hold on to your seats ladies and gentlemen, tomorrow will be another thriller.
