Alexander Zverev vs Alex de Minaur
October 28, 2021 12:00 am EDT
Second seed Alexander Zverev will play Alex de Minaur in the Round of 16 of the 2021 Erste Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Thursday October 28th, 2021 at a time yet to be determined.
Alexander Zverev and Alex de Minaur will square off at the Erste Open with the winner getting a spot in the Quarter-Finals. Zverev has been having a very consistent season while de Minaur has been the opposite, but there is no denying his quality. Can he continue his recent resurgence with an upset win over the German superstar? Or will the second seed win as expected and move on?
Alexander Zverev is the second seed here at the Erste Open and is ranked number four in the world. The German has been one of the most consistent performers on the ATP Tour over the past few seasons, and will be eager to get some momentum going before the year end tournament in Turin. He started strongly here in Vienna, defeating the dangerous Filip Krajinovic in straight sets in a dominant performance. Zverev served extremely well, and that usually is the determining factor with him. If he serves well he can be almost unbeatable at times, and he will be looking towards that tactic to get through this challenge from Alex de Minaur.
Alex de Minaur is a very talented and experienced player despite his young age. The Australian has a reputation of being one of the quickest and most ferocious competitors on the ATP circuit, but can struggle on this quick indoor surface as he has no major weapons other than his speed and consistency. He has been very inconsistent this season and will be hoping to finish the year on a high. He played well in his opening round win over Kevin Anderson, returning well and committing very few unforced errors. De Minaur will have to be much better here to get past Alexander Zverev who seems to be in great form.
This is the fifth time that they have played each other and Zverev has won all but one of those matches. I am expecting him to continue that winning streak over Alex de Minaur, as he is simply the better player and has much more firepower than his opponent, something that will be very useful on this surface. De Minaur is a fighter so he won’t go down easily, but he will be powerless from stopping the world number four from advancing to the Quarter-Finals here at the Erste Open.
