Alexander Flores vs. Luis Ortiz Boxing Picks, Odds, Predictions – 11/7/20

Luis Ortiz enters this fight with a 31-2 record that includes 26 knockouts. Ortiz has won six of his last eight fights, and he’s coming off a November (2019) loss against Deontay Wilder. Ortiz is coming off a frustrating bout in a rematch against Wilder, as he was in control of the fight and was winning until he was knocked out in the seventh round. Ortiz was competitive in both fights against the Bronze Bomber, he just couldn’t close the deal and it’s prevented him from putting his career in a different light. Ortiz is now 41 years old, stands at 6’4”, has a 78-inch reach and a southpaw stance. Ortiz is simply a technically sound heavyweight who does more than look to land that one haymaker, as he works behind his jab well, works the body and often does some of his best work on counters. Ortiz also moves well for a guy his size, slipping punches and usually being solid defensively. Ortiz likes to stay busy and piles up the points due to his aggressiveness, and he still has dangerous pop in his hands despite seriously getting up there in age in terms of boxing. This will be Ortiz’s fourth career fight in California.

Alexander Flores enters this fight with a 18-2-1 record that includes 16 knockouts. Flores has won four of his last five fights, and he’s coming off a November (2019) win over Mario Heredia. Flores is coming off a sixth round knockout in one of his biggest fights of his career when you consider his resume has a lot of subpar names on it. A win here would obviously be the biggest victory for Flores to date and could open many doors to some big paydays. Flores is a 30-year-old American who stands at 6’4”, has a 79-inch reach and an orthodox stance. Flores has fairly quick hands for a guy his size and there’s no question the power is there, as each of his last 14 wins have been stoppages. Flores keeps his hands up defensively and can usually find his way out of danger, but each of his losses we’re knockouts. When Flores lets his hands go and isn’t being passive, he’s a capable threat in this division. This will be Flores’ 15th career fight in California, his birth state.

While I like making cases for both sides and finding value in underdogs, this should be nothing more than a sparing match for Ortiz. Keep Ortiz busy until another potential big fight opens up sometime next year. Flores has been stopped twice by lesser fighters than Ortiz, and he hasn’t been in the ring with many respectable names. This usually ends badly. Flores has the pop, but he doesn’t let his hands go as much as he needs to and doesn’t have much head movement. Flores is going to eat some heavy shots and get dropped in the fifth or sixth rounds.
