The Memphis Grizzlies travel to the Vivint Arena to take on the Utah Jazz on Monday night.
The Memphis Grizzlies have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their past six games and they might still be licking their wounds after getting thrashed by the Timberwolves in a 138-95 road loss on Saturday. Desmond Bane led the team in scoring with 21 points, Tyus Jones added 16 points off the bench while Jaren Jackson Jr. chipped in with 12 points on two of nine shooting. As a team, the Grizzlies shot just 34 percent from the field and nine of 32 from the 3-point line as they got off to a slow start and quickly found themselves in a deep hole after allowing the Timberwolves to pour on 40 points in the first quarter and 113 points after three quarters. The Grizzlies couldn’t get it going offensively and on the defensive end, they had no answer for the Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards who barely missed all night. On the bright side, no starters played their usual minutes as this game was decided by halftime.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have been in decent shape as they will be looking to build on their current three-game win streak after blowing past the Kings in a 123-105 road win on Saturday. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 26 points and five assists, Rudy Gobert added 21 points with 14 rebounds while Mike Conley chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Jazz shot 50 percent from the field and 17 of 39 from the 3-point line as they took the early lead, but they couldn’t shake off the pesky Kings until the fourth quarter where they exploded for 39 points to pull away and make it look easy in the end. It was a real team effort as the Jazz outrebounded the Kings by 52-35 and they had six players finish in double figures in scoring.
Looking at the betting trends, the Grizzlies are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record, 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a team above .600. The Jazz are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games, 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games following a win and 1-7 ATS in their last eight home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the over is 13-3 in the last 16 meetings in Utah, the Grizzlies are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall and the Grizzlies are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in Utah.
The Grizzlies have been playing well below their best lately and their confidence took a real hit during their blowout loss to the Timberwolves on Saturday. The Jazz are starting to heat up with three wins on the bounce and they reminded us just how quickly they can run away with it if you allow them to get loose. I’m looking for Morant and the Grizzlies to come out firing after such a bad performance in their last outing, but they are just 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in Utah and they will also be without Dillon Brooks who has been ruled out. I think the Jazz will be too good in this spot.
