Jackson State vs South Carolina State 12/18/21 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The South Carolina State Bulldogs and the Jackson State Tigers meet Saturday, December 18 in Celebration Bowl college football action from Mercedes-Benz Stadium. South Carolina State went 6-5 overall this season. The Bulldogs took out Norfolk State in their last game. South Carolina State began their year on a 1-4 run with losses to Alabama A&M, Clemson, New Mexico State and Florida A&M. The Bulldogs finished up with a 5-1 run however, taking out Morgan State, Delaware State, NC Central, Howard and Norfolk State along the way. 

Back on November 20 versus Norfolk State, South Carolina State was down 14-10 heading into the fourth quarter but rallied with 21 points from there in a 31-21 win. QB Corey Fields put up 250 yards and three scores, all to Shaquan Davis who caught nine balls for 141 yards in total. 

Over on the Jackson State side, their only blemish this year was a game three loss to LA-Monroe. Since then the Tigers have beaten Delta State, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, MS Valley State, TX Southern, Southern U, Alcorn State and Prairie View. 

On December 4 versus Prairie View, the Tigers had a slim three-point lead at the break. Jackson State scored 14 third-quarter points and hung on for a 27-10 win. RB Peytton Pickett finished on 107 yards and a score, while Trevonte Rucker caught two balls for 31 yards. 

PICK: I’m probably going to go with Jackson State here. The Tigers have had a couple of close calls over this nine-game win streak, but overall the team has been playing well. Jackson State has hit 21 or more points in each of the nine games, with 28 or more points in five of them. The Tigers should be good for a handful of touchdowns in this one. 

As for South Carolina State, they’ve been at 17 points or fewer in three of their last five so they’re going to need to step it up if they want to stay with the pace. I think the Bulldogs will hang around in the first half before Jackson State pulls away on a cover.
