South Alabama vs Troy Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 1/28/23

The Troy Trojans and the South Alabama Jaguars meet Saturday in college basketball action from Mitchell Center. Troy is fresh off a Thursday game versus Louisiana. In that one the Trojans lost by 15 points. As for South Alabama, they played Old Dominion in their Thursday matchup. The Jaguars would go on to lose in a close game. Troy Trojans 

The Trojans kicked off their season on a 10-6 run with losses to St. Thomas MN, Arkansas, SIU Edwardsville, San Diego State, Mercer and Southern Miss. Troy went 3-2 in the next five with losses to James Madison and Appalachian State. 

In the Thursday matchup versus Louisiana, Troy was destroyed 41-17 in the first half. The Trojans got better on a 40-31 run from there but still lost big 72-57. Kieffer Punter put up 16 points with six rebounds in the defeat. 

South Alabama Jaguars 

Over on the South Alabama side, they beat Mobile, Evansville, Robert Morris, Alabama A&M, Spring Hill, Jacksonville State and Arkansas State in their first 16 games. The Jaguars went 1-3 in the next four with a lone win over James Madison. 

Matched up against Old Dominion on Thursday, South Alabama faced a 34-29 deficit at the break. The Jaguars picked it up in the second half on a 35-32 stretch but lost 66-64. Isaiah Moore topped the team on 19 points. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with South Alabama. There’s not a ton of intrigue involved in this one with both teams coming off losses, but it should be a competitive matchup. That said, South Alabama is riding a rough 1-5 stretch right now. The Jaguars have been close in all of those losses, though; they haven’t fallen by more than six points against some decent teams. Troy is on a 1-3 run themselves right now and in need of a good showing. I like the Jaguars to hang around well enough to cover/win.
